"upper portion of paper street.
"Finally put 2 and 2 togehter and figured out these "Bialas" photos are connected tot he sewer photos in Boundary way. If you go to the map, you'll see the property of "R.F.Bialas" consists largely of the lower portion of the Boundary R.O.W. which extended (and still does, or at least has an easment) between the WQED parking lot and down through the Central Catholic practice field.
"By the oxymoronic "Navy soldier" the caption writer means Marine? "
"Rough vantage point of this plan, which was never built.
Shows the original Point bridge on the Mon, which would be replaced in 1927 with a bridge for which Stanley Rousch (signed this sketch as delineator) would be credited as srchitect: http://www.pghbridges....
Must have been DPW's in-house architect. "
"Tired to find this configuration of wooden tenements with pedestrian court and a house at the end on 1914 city plat maps of the Hill, but no luck..."
"I think "Guys and Dolls Cocktail Bar" in the distance is now Toast Wine bar at 5102 Baum Boulevard... maybe? "
"Actually think it might be here.
Based on the location on 1939 Hpkins map of the "Superior Auto Accessories" which can be seen in the photo across the street.

"I try to include them with my tags wherever they're helpful, you can search them by street name which is great for abandoned or renamed streets.
I actually use them for work all of the time, real estate and rights of way rarely change without serious effort and expense, so unless an area has been "renewed" the maps a far more accurate resource for property info than anyone else offers for free online... "
"Rough location is the city side of the Fort Pitt Bridge, prior to construction. Cars and people suggest late forties or early fifties, but pre-1956, when Ft. Pitt bridge construction began. Point Bridge visible in distance closed when Ft. Pitt opened in 1960 but wasn't demolished until 1970.
I think I tagged a photo of the "Ship Hotel" on The Allegheny in the 30s or 40s, sign said "Pork and Ham BBQ" not "Meals" but obviously the same boat. Anyone know anything about it?
Also, never knew the old Alcoa (now Bayer) sign on Mt. Washington was once and Iron City ad..."
"Hmmm... Did they perhaps mean: "Excavation and work BELOW the Millvale Avenue Bridge, which carries the STREET OVER THE Pennsylvania Railroad. "
It'd be pretty hard to excavate atop a bridge! "
"Can't geotag council chambers directly! "
"Landwehr was located at the rear of the Shakespeare School, now roughly the rear of the Shakespeare Giant Eagle shopping center. Actually looking Northeast, as Landwehr dead-ended into Aurelia St.

"Yes I think so. My tag is a little closer to Friendship Ave. than the old photo."
"This is West Penn Hospital, near the corner of Gross And Friendship Ave."
"Great map. I'm going to try to make it easy for people tagging to use these maps for help. It will be especially helpful for tagging Downtown and in the Hill District."
"Do you think that the dirt area we see in the old photo is what is now a parking lot at the corner of Taylor and Rosina?"
