"And almost 3 years later (IJanuary 24, 2014) this pic is still listed as being in Squirrel Hill."
"If this is Brookline Boulevard and Pioneer Avenue then why is the map showing Brookline Boulevard and Whited Street?"
"This is not by the Giant Eagle or Woods Run.. this is Brighton road after the woods run intersection heading away from town. The street up on the left, leads to Shadeland Ave, near the bridge."
"Pretty sure this is the location just based on some of the houses still exisiting"
"You can see O'Briens bar on the right."
"The only odd thing is that there is a fire hydrant on the (proposed) NW corner, which is not shown on the map."
"OK I looked at city directories and found an ephemeral business called the Pittsburg(h) Hardwood Door Co. starting in 1909. They were on the South Side. By 1912, they had moved to 13th & Pike (now Smallman). They had changed names or gone out of business by 1915.
Looking at the Hopkins map, there is only one nearby intersection for Mulberry that has a six story building on one corner and a 2 story on the other: 13th Street. So I think the photo was taken looking NE up Mulberry, almost from where the Heinz History Center is located. "
"The 1914 photo surely shows Mulberry Alley in the Strip District around 16th street; the Google Street View is an intersection in Duquesne, PA."
"My apologies for the second comment. It's wrong. I got turned around looking at the map and Street View. The Kenyon Theatre was indeed on the west side of Federal Street, a bit south of what is now North Commons. "
"I should also note that, though Historic Pittsburgh's description of this photo says that the view is west along Erie Street, the view is actually looking east. Odd-numbered lots are on the east sides of north-south streets in Pittsburgh. Also, Federal Street slopes upward toward the north, away from the river, and the slight incline upward can be seen running from right to left in the photo."
"Google Maps is a bit off on its estimate. The Kenyon Theatre was at 819 Federal Street. That location is now somewhere along the part of the street that has been converted into a mall, south of North Commons. Map 819 on East Commons and West Commons, and draw a line between them, and where the line crosses the mall should be just about where the Kenyon Theatre was located. Google's camera car didn't travel the mall, so the closest you can get to an accurate street view would be looking down the mall from North Commons."
"Actually at the top of this alleyway."
"A bit further up. Reliance is now General Robinson"
"Where it would be if not for the freeway"
"Closest to it. All the streets have been changed in this area."
"Closest I can get it. There's now a building where Bell Alley stood."
"Original St. Stephen's Roman Catholic church from Second Avenue showing fire damage before being raised."
