A small child crawls along the East Street steps. This view looks east from 1556 Howard Street on the North Side as the rickety and crooked steps climb from Howard to East Streets. Similar steps can be found throughout Pittsburgh due to the hilly terrain. In the years since this photo, the city of Pittsburgh has built the 279 North Interstate stretch over these two roads.
