Harbeson graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and later became a prominent professor of architecture there. His books on the Beaux-Arts method or architecture were very influential in the field. He also supervised the design of memorials to American World War II soldiers in Europe and Asia. Di Nardo also attended the University of Pennsylvania and early in his career worked in Philadelphia and New York. In 1921 he moved to Cleveland designing public and private buildings.
