Wylie Avenue Hump Cut

Hump Removal on Wylie Avenue, looking from Fifth Avenue and showing the severity of the cut and its impact on the surrounding neighborhood and businesses. Establishments affected include the Buffalo Restaurant, Duquesne Beer, and the Keystone Loan Office. The "hump" cut took place in the downtown area known as Grant's Hill. Planning began in 1909 and the project was completed with the final cut in 1913. It changed the gradient of Grant [Boulevard], Diamond Street, and Oliver, Fifth, Sixth, Webster and Wylie Avenues.
