Track and Field Day sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation at Pitt Stadium. Constructed in 1924 for $2.1 million, Pitt Stadium stood as the symbol of the University of Pittsburgh's sports program. The stadium covered approximately nine acres. A total of 2,200 tons of structural steel, 1,000 tons of reinforced steel, and 20,000 cubic yards of concrete was used to set up the bowl. The structure was razed in 1999 to make way for the Peterson Events Center. The Oakland VA Hospital is visible in the background.
