Tunnel Street

20100120 cp 0250
A moustached man stands on the corner of Bigelow Boulevard and Tunnel Street in the Hump District. The view is looking east and shows work completed in the Hump Cut. The "hump" cut took place in the downtown area known as Grant's Hill. The project began with planning in 1909 and ended with the final cut in 1913. It changed the gradient of Grant Street, Diamond Street, and Oliver, Fifth, Sixth, Webster and Wylie Avenues. The image also includes a lot for sale and Pittsburgh Printing Co.

Actually - I think you're right after all.

Tunnel and Bigelow Blvd (formerly Grant Blvd) can be seen here:

I think the position and pan is closer to my tag, as you can see the roofline of Union Station in the background. See the adjacent map for the alignment of Grant Blvd http://images.library.pitt.edu/cgi-...

No, your tag follows the former Webster Aveneu (see my original map link). Grant Boulevard at Tunnel Street (which is not on your link) was parallel to Grant Street. This intersection also formerly included Strawberry Way, which can sighted fromt he existeing Strawberry Way between 7th Ave and 6th Ave.

    Sorry for the typos!

Yep - I'm not saying that my location is on the map that I sent, but that you can see the alignment of Grant Blvd, and why the roofline makes sense. My position is about a block up Webster from Sixth, which is approximately where Grant Blvd and Tunnel met.
