Smithfield Street

Looking north along Smithfield Street near the intersection of Smithfield and Boulevard of the Allies. The imposing Old Post Office can be seen on the right just beyond the National Stores Co. Construction on the post office began around 1879/1880 and was not completed until 1892. It included stone from Vermont and Kentucky as well as wood from Africa. The building was torn down in 1966 to make way for a park and parking lot.
