View of hump cut progress along the east side of Sixth Avenue, looking south from Wylie Avenue. The "hump" cut took place in the downtown area known as Grant's Hill. The project began with planning in 1909 and ended with the final cut in 1913. It changed the gradient of Grant Street, Diamond Street, and Oliver, Fifth, Sixth, Webster and Wylie Avenues. Sixth Avenue between Grant Street and Fifth Avenue was relocated east of its original alignment to create a building lot for Mellon Bank Center in the 1980's. The actual location of the historic photo would be where One Mellon Bank Center sits today. See an old street map for confirmation.
