Mayor Pete Flaherty. Pete Flaherty Was Born in 1924 On Pittsburgh's North Side. He Had A Political Career Spanning 40 Years including Being A Three-Time Democratic Nominee For Statewide office, Deputy U.S. Attorney General, A 12 Year Run As County Commissioner, As Well As Pittsburgh's Mayor from 1969 To 1977. His Administration Was One Committed To Prudent Spending and Preparing Austere Budgets. During His Tenure, Three Rivers Stadium Opened, the Pirates Won the World Series (1971), and the Steelers Won Two Super Bowls (1974-1975) .
